Re: Spilled a drink on my laptop keybord

JB38 Posted May 23, 2009, in response to:A

Any attempt to rectify the mistake can be fraught with problems unless the keyboard is first removed, however the safest way is to sit the keyboard "vertically" facing you and brush over / between the keys using a "weak" mixture of washing up liquid mixed in some mildly hot water, do this with the aid of a long haired soft bristle brush. The whole object of the exercise is to soften up anything thats dried on so its rather obvious that you are effective giving the keyboard a second soak, the only difference this time is that its being controlled, so take about three or four minutes to do this. Once done, give it a good shake "whilst keeping it in the vertical position" then lean it against something, then with the aid of a hair-drier on its "cold" setting spend a few minutes blowing air everywhere you can on the keyboard. During this procedure turn it in as many vertical positions as you can manage whilst blowing the air onto it, then leave it sitting (again vertically) for a few hours in a reasonably warm area before attempting to apply any form of power to the device, needless to say all sources of power should have been removed before attempting anything. Non-technical types of people might think applying any further liquid is a terrible thing to do, but speaking as a person who has been a lifetime in electronics this works if done carefully, although this has to be qualified by adding that its still always preferable to remove the keyboard to carry out the procedure. (this procedure also works with TV and such likes of remote controls etc)
