If the square tab adjacent to the four rectangular ones is actually closed then even although that is the correct position for recording still try another tape, if however doing that still doesnt work then it suggests a fault on the pin / contacts device that this slider activates and likewise should be inspected. (Difficult to see unless with the aid of a small dental mirror for "upward" views)
