LCD Screen not lighting up

Hi, I have a DSC T1 and the screen does not light up,except when I recharge and then it lasts for only about 10 seconds and then switches off leaving the screen v dark I cannot see photos on memory stick or take new ones. Sony are V Expensive any ideas on costs of repair? of this.
