Blinking light on standby

I purchased my sony in January 2004, By february 21, 2004 I called sony and reported the blinking light and my television wouldn't come on. They told me to unplug it for a minute and plug it backup. I did this for five and a half years. Finally my television stopped working. I called them didn't get any help. However I did try the hairdryer on the television and it worked. I don't know how long it will stay on. I hope I don't have to buy another television because it will not be a sony.
