Why do is their no picture or sound when I plug my xbox 360 blu ray player into my hdmi port

Hi, I have a JVC LT40DS7BJ TV and the hdmi ports do not out put any sound or picture??? I was wondering if you can shed any light on my problem Many thanks Andy:)
