has power but wont power up

i just tried to install a kd-sx980 in my olds. a freind gave me the HU out of his truck where it worked fine, but i can't get it to power on. if i press the display button it will show the time for about 5 seconds, it will accept and eject cd's but it wont actually turn on. my wiring is good and the reset button seems to have no effect but to return the time to 1:00. any ideas?
