Master station not working

I have a Broan Intercom that I had installed in a new home in October 1996. The power is on, clock works, radio station shows up but no sound of any kind except static when I turn the volume buttons. My front door bell goes thru it and of course, thats not working either. It is hooked up to 5 rooms in the house and two outdoor speakers. Any ideas where to get parts or someone to repair. After researching a bit I'm unsure whether I can even replace the master station. It sounds like the wiring used for this system will not work with any other systems. Is that true? In other words is it junk and I just need to take it all out and patch the drywall????? Help...anyone???
