It displays "E-99" on the remote

I have a Sony 10 disc CD Changer (EXCD-IRF) in my 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. One day I stopped to change the Cds around and when i got back into the car, the remote displayed "E-99." The remote is connected by wire that runs through the car. Nothing looks abnormal and i even brought a cd to clean the lense. Do you have any idea what could be wrong?
