HomeTV won't turn on unless the back is off of it. I have a JVC TV #AV-32750, I wouldn't power up so I took off the back to see what might be wrong with it. I didn't see anything burnt or cracked so I pluged it back in, with the still off the set, still nothing. Then I noticed that the circuit board was bowed down a bit since there was nothing there to support the back of it, so I put a small block of wood to lift it up and then tried turning the set on again and I fired up, working great. I took the wood block out and again it wouldn't turn on. So, I think it may have a bad soulder joint somewhere but I can't see any. Has anybody out there had this same problem before? Anyone have any thoughts on this? I realy don't want to resoulder the entire board. Thanks.

I am afraid that there isn't any shortcuts into finding where the problem is, because as well as it appearing as though there is a bad joint somewhere there is also a possibility that its a component that has partially fractured. The best way to carry out a test is to with the aid of a PLASTIC OR NON CONDUCTING ROD carefully prod (slightly push on) each of the higher standing components and this will give an idea of the fault location when (hopefully) the set suddenly comes on. It should be mentioned that the chassis you refer to is notorious for faults in the frame timebase circuitry, and especially around the chip (I/C) mounted on a vertical heatsink which can suffer from bad joints at its base, that is as well as it blowing altogether due to the notorious C926 fault, another place to check as it sits near to the I/C. |
