DVI-HDMI cable unable to connect PC to my W series 40inch sony lcd

I have purchased a DVI-HDMI conversion cable make philips which is a gold plated and good quality one. I have PC with a graphics card supporting1680x1200 resolution. I have used this cable to connect to my W40 sony LCD and it says signal incompatability. please let me know how i can view my PC in the W40 Full HD tv
