Sony DVD receiver flashes "standby"

Glen Posted Jan 23, 2009

Need to know which components are most likely the cause.

Hello, I am working with a Dav-Fc7 DVD player/receiver. The unit will power up but wont play DVDs. Then when I try to shut the unit off it flashes "standby" continuously. As I understand it this has been a big problem with these units, but this is the first one of this particular model that I have run across. I can repair the unit but I'm looking for some information that will save me some troubleshooting time. I figure that someone has already ran into this and can direct me to which components I need to focus on and give me any service info and updates if they exist. Thank you.

Happens to mine as well (DAV-FC7). I looked around a good bit, and found that there is a fault tranistor of the DAV-FC7/8/9. This causes the unit to overheat. I'm guessing that if your's is going to standby instead of turning off, the DVD player is also becoming unresponsive during films. This is all because of overheating of this transistor. If you buy a couple of heat sinks, attach them to the bottom, it should fix the problem. It should be about 20 bucks online. If you send it to Sony to repair, it will be about 200 bucks. Hope this helps!!! Bobby
