Although you can transfer tapes directly onto the PC it requires various procedures to be carried out to guarantee success, this being right from the method used to transfer the video tapes plus the programme used to process same once in the PC. Success is always guaranteed by transferring the tapes via the camcorders A/V lead directly into a DVD recorder, as even the simplest of these can in many cases give superior results to a novice attempting to use the PC for this purpose, most difficulties occurring because of the massive file sizes involved. If video is transferred via the DVD recorder the actual recorder compresses the video into a manageable size, then if editing is required the DVD can be imported into a editing programme in the PC, however for what you want to do the DVD made during transfer would possibly suffice. Always choose a DVD recorder of the DVD-R/RW variety, as if burnt onto a -R (and finalised!) it will play in practically all other DVD players, DVD+ types are iffy as far as that is concerned.
