Starts / stops playing cd.

HI guys. The sony hcd-w55 player will play a cd, then disk motor will stop & start. I have cleaned the laser, disk & tray sense without luck. I dont have the sony test cd, but do have maintenance manual. I was going to c/o kss laser, then db board, but thought somoene may know a common fault with these. Thankyou. Mark.
