The tape door will not stay closed with or without a tape

Hello, I have a GRDVL310 with a couple of problems. First, I have the same condensation problem as other folks. I haven't attempted the remove 11 screws trick yet because I am also having a problem with the tape door not closing. I tried to close it after removing the battery and that worked but that is the only time it will work. I have to remove the battery every time I want to close the door with or without a tape. Is the locking mechanism shot? Thank you
