Lens Cap on Problem

JVC GR-Dvl520U Camcorder Lens Cap on Problem

I have a JVC GR-DVL520U camcorder –used it less than 100 hours over the past six years. Recently, the camcorder has begun to display a "lens cap" message when powered with the lens cap off. No video is present - thus camcorder is unusable. The JVC site does not list this model for warranty repairs and I've checked a few other forums and found this to be a persistent problem for a variety of JVC camcorders, but nothing on possible solutions. Can anyone help solve this problem?

On these models apart from the actual CCD itself, which can go defective in any camcorder no matter what the brand, two possible known causes exist, them being the selector mode switch having developed a fault or a badly seated ribbon cable, this connecting the image sensor module to the video board with the cable concerned running just under the top casing of the camcorder. There are obviously other and more complex reasons that can cause the problem, but these are the first things that would be tried. Needless to say both problems require the casing to be removed to diagnose the problem.
