Brightness is fading

TV is getting progressively darker. Controls set to maximum brightness, but still getting very dark. Are there adjustments other than the menu-driven settings? TV is only four-five years old. Seems pre-mature for the picture tube going out. Any suggestions or experience will be appreciated.
