Battery door stuck on Sony Cybershot DSC-S40

I cannot open the door on my Sony Cybershot DSC-S40. I have not used the camera for a while, and the door is stuck closed. There are no batteries inside. I've pushed down on the tiny gray button and pushed the door toward the outside of the camera, as the manual says, but it doesn't budge. I've even tried to pry it open, but to no avail.
