Camcorders are very mechanically sensitive devices which are easily damaged, and what you mention suggests the possibility of the cassette carriage having been "helped along the way" with some hand pressure whilst it was carrying out an "automatic" loading / unloading operation. If you have removed the battery for a couple of minutes and the situation has not changed when you re-inserted it, then there is nothing you can really do as a drive cog could possibly have jumped out of position, dismantling and attempted resetting being the only course of action left.
