Door speaker volume way too loud

I have a 3 year old IMA-4406. I have made all the volume adjustments on the main unit including the small knob inside the panel, but it still sounds like you are screaming across the neighborhood when answering the front door. We can't use the door intercom because it is so loud. Any ideas anyone???
