I tried it and it worked!!

I contacted Sony about the error message I received C:31:22. After the chat, I was advised to send in the camcorder for repair at $101.00 fee. But, I listened to the little voice within a went to the internet and searched "SONY C:31:22" I was skeptical against banging on my camcorder. But it worked. I removed the batter. Turned it off. And firmly but gently hit with my hand twice on each side. I turned it on and the tape played ---Thank you. You saved me lots of time and money.
