No picture, power light(red) blinks but will not turn off.

I have a JVC AV27720 TV. While watching TV I lost the picture and sound. The power light(red) stays on but is blinking. The only way to turn it off is to unplug the tv. When I turn it back on all I get is a blinking red power light. Sounds a lot like some other problems listed on this site.
