Unfortunately the D53 models are included in a large range of "D" models than can develop the lens cap problem, however if you go onto JVC's website for where ever you are located you may be able to get some info from there, the free repair offer expired at the end of June but this has twice been extended, so that may happen again! You should be aware that you must be the original purchaser, and have proof of this to obtain the free repair. I could send more detailed info but unsure of your location country wise! and the info is only really dedicated to owners in the US, Canada, UK, Australia & NZ.
