Problem recording video on JVC GZ-MG57U

Problem with recording video

I have a JVC GZ-MG57U and it used to record and play back fine. For some reason it now keeps saying that I need to take the lens cap off...but I did! I try to record but there is no picture, there is only sound. Suggestions? Tim

Hi, I have the same problem. I own the camcorder for almost 2 years and the problem started about 6 months ago. I had it professionally cleaned, paid around $130 for it but it only worked for one time and the problem's back again. I'm hopeless, have you found out any solution? Thanks a million.

That indication means that there is no signal being fed back to the video input board from the CCD image sensor due to some fault having developed for some reason or another, this can of course can happen if the CCD has been damaged through the lens having been accidentally allowed to sweep past the full view of the sun, however irrespective of whether or not this could apply the device requires proper testing to determine the exact reason for the fault, as the problem can be caused by one or two other possible reasons. (ALL internal!) It should be said that CCD image sensor failure is something that has bugged a massive range of JVC camcorders for the last three years, with a twice extended free repair offer (expires at the end of this month) having been running for the last 30 months or so, so one hopes that your GZ model which is not known for that type of fault is another exception to the rule, and not the forerunner for another run of bad luck, albeit that GZ models are NOT on the list of models affected with premature CCD failure.
