GV-D1000 shuts off

I've had this GV-D1000 DV Deck for a few years. I use it as part of my Video Editing Setup. Lately when I fast forward or rewind a tape, the unit shuts off after a few seconds. I cleaned the heads, but that doesn't help. Any ideas?
