Well it possibly helps save mechanism wear on the more upmarket Cannon prosumer, but e-04 on a JVC device is always associated with either a dirty tape head or a problem with the video head / drum, this ranging from a defective ribbon to drum connector, or the actual drum itself having developed a problem.
