Tape mechanism does not load into camcorder even when fully charged.

I have a Sony DCR-HC40E for a few years now, recently I tried to load a tape into the camcorder but the mechanism seems to open but will not load into the camcorder. So, now even without the tape in the holder is out in the eject mode. I've considered all options, making sure its fully charged, taking the battery out and putting it back in but with no luck. Does anyone know if this is something I could fix or is this a mechanism issue? Regards, Naeem
