TV not used for 10 years won't turn on.

My Mom has had a JVC TV Model AV27BM6 since about 1995. About 10 years ago she decided she wasn't watching it and had the cable disconnected. She kept the TV in her bedroom, however. I recently convinced her that we could connect a DVD player to the TV to allow her to see DVDs of her grandchildren. But when I connected the DVD player to the TV, I discovered that it would not come on. This is really surprising since the TV was hardly ever used!
