Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 powers on split second, then off

Erik Bertrand Posted Mar 25, 2008

The DSC-S40 I have had the "white screen" problem, which we got around by tapping the "Sony Cybershot" logo on the front; but now the camera, on power-on, lights the green light but nothing else happens;

Our DSC-S40 had the "white screen" problem recently, which we got around by tapping the "Sony Cybershot" logo on the front while the camera was off. Ok, fine. But soon after, when we powered on the camera, the green light would appear, the LCD would show a quick flash of the screen, then the camera would power off (no error code or message on screen). It seemed like the lens motor or something related died a slow but sure death. Each time we tried after that, it would do something similar then try and move the lens a bit, but always just end in powering off by itself. At this point the lens is retracted fully and the lens cap is staying open. When I power the camera on, I hear the first tiny bit of the startup sound, the green light comes on, but nothing else happens (no LCD, no lens movement). I've dissembled the camera enough to close the lens, but on powering up the lens opens fine, green light goes on, first bit of sound is heard, but nothing else. Help! -Erik
