JVC just quite working! Made one little sound and the picture and sound were gone! Will burn on but nothing happens. I was told this might be a "transformer". Would that be the correct part that's bad and how can I fix it?

I can't bear to throw it away. It's been such a good tv. I can't believe it just up and stopped working. It was built in 2001. Called on shop in Palm Desert, CA and the guy was really rude and told me he wouldn't even work on it. If so, it would cost approximately $300 to $400 to fix. :(
