stereo turns on and off

Can anyone help? I have transfered my jvc kd-s611 into my new car and as far as I know it seems to be wired up correctly, however it will not turn on only by the back up supply but turns itself off again. I have tried resetting according to the manual but with no response. I would be very greatful if someone could shed some light on the problem. thankyou Caroline
