My TV started going on and off by itself!

Last night while we were eating dinner in another room, my TV started clicking off and on in rapid succession. We unplugged it, wait a while and tried again and it resumed it's weird behavior. When it clicks on it doesn't stay on long enough to get to a channel. We changed the batteries in the remote and then removed them and no change. Got a clue? Cami and Paul
