What to do?

My Sony KV 36xbr800 won't go on and it blinks 7 times in the standby mode. It is only 6 years old and I called the repair shop and they said it would be $45 to diagnose it. They said it might take as long as 1 month to get it fixed. I'd like to get it fixed but hate the idea of hauling that monster to the repair shop and back.
