DVD plays previews but not the movie

I just purchased an off the shelf dvd and when I played it, the previews played just fine, but it will not play the movie, just a black screen. When you try to use any of the controls on the remote a red circle with a line thru it comes up on the screen. This has happened on one other dvd. The two dvd's in question are Delta Farce and Good Luck Chuck.
