Resetting the remote on a TV--need help

I have an old JVC TV that a friend gave to me without the manual. While trying to figure out the home Sitter and Channel Guard on the remote, I lost about half my channels. Is there any way to clear or reset the settings? Is there a manual? This is not the easiest remote to figure out with its miminal amount of buttons and onscreen input. thanks
