Your model is one that has the potential to develop the infamous "lens cap" fault. A special free repair offer has been running for 30 months or so but its now expired, however if you are the original purchaser and can prove this by showing a receipt, contact JVC and they may still offer the repair, knowledge about this being done is through experience in dealing with a large number of people with the fault.
