E03 error message / SAFEGAURD MODE

when i put a tape in the unit starts to load, but then makes a repetitive clicking sound. if i try to record or play it gives me an E03 error/safegaurd mode message, tells me to remove and reinsert battery (which doesn't fix it.) it makes the same no

ise after i remove the tape.

    You dont mention what model of camcorder you are referring to! however it sounds like a JVC model and if it is, the E-03 error code is saying that the take up cassette spindle is not turning properly, this in most cases due to the tape sticking inside the actual cassette being used, so try another. If it is still the same then the take up drive mechanism could be contaminated with tape dust causing excessive slip in the drive, this possibly by the use of non JVC tapes, only JVC - Panasonic or Fuji tapes should be used, as TDK and Maxell tapes are reputed to cause drive problems in JVC devices.
