Hook up for JVC Receiver RX-8010V

I recently purchased a new TV and HD DVD Player and am trying to re-hook it back up to my JVC receiver. The problem is: I have hooked the dvd player to the TV via an hdmi cable and then hooked the TV to the receiver via an digital optical cable. When I watch TV I get a digital signal but when I watch a dvd it says the sound is coming across in pro-logic. How do I get it to come across in digital?
