receivers with turntable inputs

ronaldo Posted Jan 17, 2008

I want to buy an affordable stereo receiver that has a hook up for my turntable(remember those?).

The outputs on my turntable is typical RCA cord with a wire for grounding. The only ones i can find at my local Best Buy store cost over $800! I'm looking for something under 400. Can anyone suggest a store or website that can help me find what i am looking for? Do they make receivers with turntable inputs anymore? Can anyone suggest a specific receiver that meets my requirements? Thank you for any advice.

It really depends on what type of stylus cartridge is fitted to the turntable, if its a ceramic type then any amp with standard A/V input facilities has bass & treble controls than can well cope with that, if however you have a more sophisticated magnetic cartridge you may have to have an amp with a dedicated input to cope with whatever impedance the cartridge is rated at. Of course it has to be admitted that amps with dedicated stylus cartridge input facilities usually have compensation circuits built in, but to be honest these are more technically academic and dont really make that much difference to the end result, as the type of loud speakers selected, and where they are positioned in the room, can make much more of a difference over what any frequency compensation circuits will do.
