Re: JVC service or questions

Caine Posted Jan 01, 2008, in response to:Stacy Sample

Hi, Don't know if you can help me but here goes: Sold my old JVC GR-AX2 VideoMovie analog camcorder a week ago to a guy in another state. I had used it probably ten times years ago. Got it out, mint condition, tested fine. Sold with all original accessories, cables, etc., and an unopened package of three TC-30 tapes (Maxell HGX-Gold). Buyer emailed to say it only records/plays back in black & white! He said the following: "I knew the view finder would show b/w. When we record and play back in the VCR, it shows up b/w. "Very old color TV. VCR plays other tapes fine. Tried all 3 tapes with same results, read book and have tried every control. It needs a battery for the clock memory. Going to replace it and also get a new tape. I'll keep trying. When I asked him if he could hook up the camcorder directly to the TV for a "closed circuit" video connection, he said... "TV not that modern. VCR connects with coaxial cable, not RCA type connectors. TV does not have those type of jacks on it." (Shouldn't he be able to hook up camera to the line-in of the VCR, and still see vid on tv monitor?) I am mystified. I sold it with a 7-day warranty, on the condition that he supply me with diagnosis from authorized JVC repair facility in the case that the camera did not function properly. I get the feeling he lives far from any JVC dealer/repair shop. It's been more than 7 days, but it has been the holidays and I'm not a stickler. Would appreciate any insight or comments as to why he is not seeing color video. Did the camera magically stop working from the day I shipped it to the day he received it? Camera was used only gently, stored properly and never dropped or banged (by me...). Truly, it looked brand new and never gave me any problem. Thanks much. Caine
