My Fisher Studio Standard stereo receiver will not turn on.

My Fisher Studio Standard stereo receiver will not turn on. Why not? It is plugged in and the red standby light is lit. I've never had this problem before. I think I've owned this receiver for at least 10 years, maybe 15. Is there some button that one of my kids might have pressed on the receiver or the remote accidentally, that has caused it to remain in a constant standby state and not turn on? Please help.
