JVC-VHS

My camcorder is only 3 years old.I purchased a new battery for it, but it still didn't work. It shows unit code locked. It seems to be that when I put a casssette in to view or record it locks dowm. When the cassette is out I can see through the camera. I noticed a small compartment on the side of the camcorder with a small chip in it. Please let me know if maybe this can fix the problem. The cost to repair it by JVC or Radioshack will be over 120.00
