JVC Digital Camcorder model GR-DVA1

No functions work on camcorder. After power up, if you press play, to view what was previously recorded, an E-04 pop's up. In record mode - it comes up right away. This sounds more serious then just taking out the battery and clock battery - waiting a few minutes and then placing them back in ?? Can you help ??
