Zoom has always gone to the maximum setting unless manually hold it forever to 1X setting

The Zoom feature has not functioned properly after a couple time of use since I bought. It always goes to the maximum setting after several seconds the camcorder turned to the record mode. I have to hold both of the two zoom buttons tightly in order to get the minimum, 1X, setting. But some time it still slipped to the maximum setting. What shall I do?
