Thumping when you turn it on and you can not turn it off by remote

This CRT is 4 years old and this is the 2nd major problem it has had. The first was the common Convergence with the color seperations. I was able to work thru this but this one has me stumped. When you turn the TV on it make a thumping sound thru the speakers and you can not turn it off by the remote, you have to unplug the TV. I have pulled the DEF & power PWB out and everthing seems OK, no burned parts or traces. Can anyone help? David
