Connecting digital camcorder to PC (Windows Vista)

I have JVC GR-70U model digital camcorder and having problems connecting it to PC (windows Vista OS) with Firewire cable. Everything turns up smoothly but I don't see the video on the screen while downloading through the default windows movie maker. Also, menus show as downloading, but nothing downloads (i.e., file size is 0) Please suggest.. Kris
