help with new JVC GZ-HD7U

I can safely remove all other devices except for my JVC HDD camcorder, it states that the device is still running, I have closed all windows , nothing is running but I still get the message, The manual states that I will damage my camcorder if I shut it down wrong.... please help, ALSO has anybody else had trouble with the .tod files from the JVC when it comes to editing?
