Cd player

My boyfriend just got a 2005 Dodge dakota and it came stocked with a cd player...now the radio plays fine but when I put in a cd it spits it out and says error cd...no matter if it's a burnt one or bought at the store....I tried cleanin it with a cd cleaner but it spits it out and says the same thing. Do u have any suggestions how to fix it? Thanks very much.
