I purchased a HandyCam DCR-HC42 in March of 2005. I have only used it a few times. The cassette drawer would eject and retract very slowly. I thought this was okay for this model. Last fall I went to use it and it stopped working completely. If I leave the tape out, the door ejects and closes perfectly. Once I put a tape in, it begins the process of closing and moves a fraction of an inch before it stops. I close the case and reopen it and it ejects the tape ( it was never fully inserted ). Can I fix this?
