Not only can you use a Panasonic PV-5000 series but you can use the Quasar VP435 series VTR too. I happened to find a junker Quasar and cannibalized the 10-pin jack (not a 8-pin as some have incorrectly stated). You can buy this jack for around $20.00 USD on the Internet at the Crutchfield Parts Search at tinyurl DOT com/3yc2dv You are looking for 1 0f 2 JACKS. I do not know which one is the 10-pin.
JACK Panasonic VEKS1134 $17.61
JACK Panasonic VEKS1135 $20.47
Here is the pin out for the camera cable. You will need a 12vdc regulated power supply that can handle a 12v 6 watt camera (e.g. Canon VC-30). Radio Shack sells them.
PINS
1. Video out (REC)/in (PLAY)
2. Ground for pin 1
3. Not used or tally
4. Ground for pin 5 or serial clock in (depends on camera)
5. Audio in, standby or audio out (2)
6. Remote pause
7. Audio out
8. Ground for pin 7
9. ground for pin 10
10. +12 volts DC
I expect you will use only pins 1,2,7,8,9 and 10
Post your results. I will try and hook my VC-30 up soon... It looks nice for 1984 vintage. I like the character titler keyboard on the side. Here is a Canon museum website for it: tinyurl DOT com/3c4mh4
