the seller of this camera claims to have bought it less than a year ago!

i have a chance to buy a lightly used sony vx 2100. the owner was cool enough to let me take it for a test drive this weekend! he claims to have just purchased it under a year ago from b and h. he also claims that it has less than 20 hrs on it. the camera seems to be in great shape, the concern i have is that when i called sony and gave them the serial number of the camera, they say it was manufactured in 2003! does that seem normal, or am i in fact looking at a 4 year old camera...what i mean is have the vx2100's been updated with new technology or parts since 2003? should i by one straight from b and h and know that i am getting a newer or more recently manufactured product??? any advice will help greatly! oh, the asking price on this particular camera is $1700.00,,,,that seems pretty fair, but i can't get over the manufature date of 2003! thanks, a.wettig
